damn…

72 yeas, 25 nays. Cloture passes. Alito will be confirmed.

I’m sorry, for the country. And I’m sorry for the young people who worked so hard. Your power was felt, and has become a force to be reckoned with, but it’s as yet unharnessed and unorganized. If it’s any consolation, it gave this 64 year old aging, balding, liberal a sweet injection of real hope for the country.

Don’t be discouraged. From my point of view, y’all were fan-fucking-tastic! Back in the dark days of Civil Rights I, getting this kind of result on anything would have been unheard of. I guess this is the Civil Rights II, and with the support of the winners from the past – women, african americans, latinos – plus the right thinking rest of us, you have a mobilizable force that can’t possibly be stopped. I’m not sure that the Democratic Party is the for sure right place to go, but it is the right place to start. But with time, this fight is yours to win. It’s just going to take a lot more than being right. It’s going to take a dose of blood, sweat, and tears to combat the Neoconservative machine that’s been built [and paid for] for decades.

Thanks for picking up the Torch…

Dear friend – saw your post on FDL and wanted to visit. A lot of us fighting today fought with you during Civil Rights 1 and we’re not letting up now. The torch is not passed, there are just more folks helping to hold it up. So keep those calling lists close and let’s keep fighting together!

    Thank you.

Your simple, sincere, and eloquent comment is an inspiration; especially since you speak from experience. It is difficult to put into words how heartening this is.

    Thank you, Dawn.
Siun, or anyone else, what is FDL? Acronyms are wonderful if you are in the know, but for those of us who are barely into Blog Reading 101 and no longer in the military, it would be grand if you’d just go ahead and spell it out. I do know what SOTUS is and am really not looking forward to that babble. Mr. Vidal’s was much more to the point, more realistic and SHORTER.

with sincere apologies for acronymitis – fdl = firedoglake – a blog found at http://www.firedoglake.blogspot.com – a zesty crew led by Jane and Redd who keep us thinking`and acting, with a comments crew that’s fast becoming a family – come join in – we’re all figuring out how to do this together.

Thank you Siun. I’ve seen that link on this site, but haven’t been pulled toward it, for no apparent reason except I’ve just not been a real blog reader. I’ll see to it that I go there to at least read it a few times since I was so cordially invited. Who knows, I might apply for family membership.

[…] I’ve been re-posting and linking to this little entry from 1 Boring Old Man all over the net. It’s a short post, so I don’t feel horribly guilty about posting the whole thing… But do stop by and say a “thank you.” 72 yeas, 25 nays. Cloture passes. Alito will be confirmed. […]
