we, not-lawyers…

Posted on Thursday 25 May 2006

Those of us who aren’t lawyers have been at a disadvantage lately. What’s being reported in the Libby case certainly sounds like Scooter in getting in deeper every day. It appears like his lawyers are being outlawyered at every turn, but who knows?

Certainly, in the pending Rove matter, the waters couldn’t be muddier. As mentioned in my last post, the idea that Mr. Rove is actually innocent of wrongdoing in the Plame Affair seems ludicrous to me. His changing excuses, at least the ones we know about, are about as convincing as the fourth grader who says, "The dog ate my homework." He’s the admitted source of several of the leaks; he’s Bush’s Brain; and he’s a total sociopath. So we not-lawyers have a hard time understanding the nuances of things that leave any doubt that he should be indicted.

What I do understand is that he’s tricky, he’s gotten away with murder, and he’s a high level official. What I don’t understand is how he’s still skirting indictment now three years after the dirty deed. I hope the reason is that Patrick Fitzgerald is aiming to get to the bottom [or top] of this tawdry epic in our history. But, Lordy, this waiting is fraying a lot of nerves. It’s like a season finale that leaves us hanging until the next season, and the season after that.

I agree. The headline that Cheney may be called as a witness in the Libby trial, though the Libby defense team says probably not, is not the headline we are hoping for. Not even close.

“Fitzgerald faces an especially high legal hurdle in bringing charges involving a private conversation between two people.”

I smell a larger than unsual dose of duplicity, M.. This dovetails w/AIPAC trial RE Rosen and Weissman. (and Larry Franklin, pos. Judith Miller, …and ____?)

Wouldn’t you LOVE to interview McNulty RE: Franklin case/Zarquawi, etc., now that KennyBoy and Skilling have been CONVICTED? Interesting that the two will be sentenced on SEPTEMBER ELEVENTH, huh?
