october surprises…

Posted on Wednesday 11 October 2006

Hiding from the Evening News on the back porch at the grill, I overheard Bush saying the Republicans were going to stay in power in Congress because "gas prices are down," the "tax cuts are working," and the "stock market is booming." I may be paraphrasing him, but that was the gist of it. I expect those were the October Surprises Karl Rove promised.

I wonder how they made those things happen? I wonder why, if they could make those things happen, they didn’t do it sooner. In the case of the gas prices, I even have the paranoid idea they might have pushed them up, so they could bring them down. They’ve gotten me that paranoid with their constant games. I may be wrong, but I would bet money they had their fingers in this otherwise unexpected fluctuation in these parameters – the very one’s the polls predicted woul be the voters concerns.

[…] You know, that’s what I think. I think the lower gas prices are part of Karl Rove’s advertised "october surprise" [see my recent post]. When I was reading this article, I thought, "I don’t know if that’s really true, that these lower prices are part of a manipulation or not." I’m glad about having that thought. It means that I’m not only paranoid, I can still question my own conclusions. And, to be honest, it doesn’t matter. I now know that I don’t trust this Administration because they’re just not trustworthy. That’s all that matters. It’s not me, it’s what they’ve done to my thinking. I don’t need to pore through the blogs and PDF’s and Wikipedia to prove that their words aren’t to be believed, I know it. […]
