the neoconservative cabal…

Posted on Monday 25 December 2006

A cabal is a number of persons united in some close design, usually to promote their private views and interests in a church, state, or other community by intrigue. Cabals are secret organizations composed of a few designing persons. The term can also be used to refer to the designs of such persons, and also holds a general meaning of intrigue and conspiracy. Its usage carries strong connotations of shadowy corners and insidious influence; a cabal is more evil and selective than, say, a faction, which is simply selfish…

ca·bal [kuhbal]
–noun
  • a small group of secret plotters, as against a government or person in authority.
  • the plots and schemes of such a group; intrigue.
  • a clique, as in artistic, literary, or theatrical circles.
–verb (used without object)
  • to form a cabal; intrigue; conspire; plot.

It is no longer tenable to believe that the current Republican Administration is simply a group of conservatives elected and supported by the people. They were elected by a collective of traditional conservatives and the Christian Right to be sure, but their agenda is anything but the platform they ran on publicly. Their agenda, in fact was the specific, not widely known, foreign policy agenda of the neoconservatives centered in the American Enterprise Institute and the later Project for the New American Century. So, the United States has been under the power of the Neoconservative Cabal now for six long years, and it shows. We are in a war for the oil fields of Iraq and they are itching for a shot at Iran. Their code words are "regime change," but changing "regimes" means trying to put one in power that is:
  • willing to let American Oil Companies call the shots with the Middle Eastern Oil resources.
  • less vicous towards Israel [or even friendly].
  • willing to forego the development of nuclear weapons allowing the United States to be the "sole superpower" on the planet.
All of these agendae have been held as a closely guarded secret from the people of the United States and effected via partial truths and outright lies – thus, a Cabal. They’ve spent six years consolidating power in the Executive, in spite of having control of both Legislative Branches of government – presumably planning for what has just occurred, losing both Houses of Congress. In other words, they have contingency plans for pressing on with their agenda even if it is clearly not the will of the people. Right now, it is anything but the will of the people.

Several days ago, the New York Times published an op-ed piece by Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann, Redacted Version of Original Op-Ed, with the portion censored by the White House blanked out. What didn’t they want us to read? I think emptywheel of The Next Hurrah has the best answer to the question [Flynt Leverett’s 1000 Words–What the Administration Doesn’t Want You to Read]. In essence, Leverett and Mann point out that the Administration has passed up any number of chances to have a diplomatic alliance with Iran. Washington has pressed on with their "Axis of Evil" agenda with Iran, just as they did with Iraq. The only possible reasons for following their path are listed above – the creed of the Neoconservative Cabal: Oil, Israel, and American Dominion. What the Administration says publicly is immaterial – rationalizations to avoid their obvious but unacknowledged motives. It’s the green dots on this map that really run this show:

So, am I and an increasing number of bloggers and government watchers hatching a far fetched conspiracy theory, or is this a correct assessment of what’s been happening for the last six years? Answer these simple questions:
  • Why did the Bush Administration ignore repeated warnings of the Al Qaeda attacks?
  • Why did the War on the specific Terrorists become the War on Terror?
  • Why did the Administration actively lobby the C.I.A. on intelligence about Iraq and cherry pick data until they found an excuse to invade Iraq?
  • How did the War on Terror become Invade Iraq?
  • Why did the invasion of Iraq to find Weapons of Mass Destruction turn into an invasion to set up a specific government in Iraq?
  • Why did the Administration out Valerie Plame to discredit her husband’s questioning the prewar intelligence?
  • Why did the White House redact last weeks op-ed piece about their ignoring diplomatic ties with Terhan?
  • Why are U.S. ships steaming into the Gulf positioned to strike Iran?
  • Why is the Iraq Strudy Group’s Report being ignored?
  • Why would Bush insist on having John Bolton in the U.N.?
  • Why would anyone keep Rumsfeld in place for as long as he stayed?
There really are no other answers to these questions that explain all of their behavior. The real question is, "Will the Neoconservative Cabal keep going, in spite of this much opposition, and failure?" The answer until proven otherwise is, "Yes."

Why? The subplot is oil. They played their card to get at the oil. Having played it, they’ve insured us a very bad position for our future dealings with the Arab Oil powers. The only success would be winning, but, winning is not possible. The only way out is by losing and disavowing the Republican Administration and the Neoconservative Cabal that hatched this scheme. So, of course they’re still trying to win. The alternative is exposure. It’s very reminiscent of the tic-tac-toe game in the movie, War Games, though, unlike the computer in the movie, the Bush Administration has no capacity to "learn" that their game can’t be won…
