and another thing…

Remember this from two weeks ago? Look at who the source was [see below]:

The Pentagon has drawn up plans for massive airstrikes against 1,200 targets in Iran, designed to annihilate the Iranians’ military capability in three days, according to a national security expert.

Alexis Debat, director of terrorism and national security at the Nixon Center, said last week that US military planners were not preparing for “pinprick strikes” against Iran’s nuclear facilities. “They’re about taking out the entire Iranian military,” he said.

Debat was speaking at a meeting organised by The National Interest, a conservative foreign policy journal. He told The Sunday Times that the US military had concluded: “Whether you go for pinprick strikes or all-out military action, the reaction from the Iranians will be the same.” It was, he added, a “very legitimate strategic calculus”.
So the question doesn’t seem to be whether Alexis Debat is a con man or not. That seems settled. He is until proven otherwise. But is he just a loose French guy out there on his own playing big shot [in Marie ‘s words, a Lone Wolf?]? … or is he a part of something else – a piece of the Neoconservative jumble? Given his connection with the Nixon Center [now scrubbed from their web-site] and the nature of his reports [inflammatory Middle East reports], it’s a question that needs to be answered. There would be a time gone by when such a connection might be considered far fetched, but with these guys, no stone needs to be un-turned. The level of secrecy and deceitfulness in these matters for the last six plus years has changed the rules, and destroyed our intuition for what the term Paranoid actually means. Since everything is at least slightly twisted, everything needs to be investigated thoroughly. Unfortunately, the shortest distance to the answer would be for Alexis Debat to just tell us. Given the way he’s acting, that doesn’t seem very likely…
