cognitive dissonance…

Posted on Monday 4 August 2008

In early June, my chronic back troubles of 30 years turned into a front page problem. So by early July, I found myself in an operating room getting a clean-up-the-old-mess and two-level-fusion. I’ve been flat on my back since then watching more television than I’ve seen [since my last back operation 25 years ago]. The point is that I’ve gotten all my news from CNN and the evening network news. But I’m on the mend and able to sit at the computer finally. Today, I started "catching up" on the blogs that I’ve missed for the last two months.

It was amazing! Like I’d been listening to news from another planet. The blogs are full of information about the U.S. Attorney Scandal and the politicization of the DoJ, the Administration’s leaking of information in the C.I.A./Plame affair, the court’s renunciation of claims of Executive Privilege, and a host of other things that relate to the current Administration. Watching T.V., about the only things I’ve heard are that the "surge worked" and we should drill for "off shore oil."

Right now, I have cognitive dissonance [and a ton of catching up to do]. And this campaign is being conducted as if the last 8 years of republican incompetence and deceit didn’t happen. Like Bush in the 2004 campaign, McCain is running on one-liners, demeaning anything that comes out of Obama’s mouth – forcing Obama to be defensive. It’s time for the Democratic Party to develop a strategy to deal with the huge amount of news that’s being ignored…
