I also feel that he actually does deserve it -- although in a few years he will probably deserve it even more.

But just the simple fact that he has restored the standing of the United States in world opinion as a nation they can respect and expect to lead in good causes, rather than the cowboy/jock wildcat that bush fostered, should not be underestimated in importance.

Just in the few months of Obama's term so far, the United States has jumped from 27th to 1st place among the nations most respected in the world.

I think we do not realize how much damage george bush, dick cheney, and their goons did to our world standing.

David Brooks on NPR this afternoon said that Obama should have turned down the prize, saying he did not deserve it. That would have shown proper humility and would have undercut the haters, for whom he can do nothing right.

But I think his response was pitch perfect. He did show proper humility (the little anecdote about Malia and Sasha equating Bo's birthday and the upcoming holiday weekend as on a par with the big announcement was a nice touch.)

And then he said he did not feel he deserved to be in the company of the truly transformative leaders who had been awarded the prize in the past -- but that he would accept it as a call to action.

And then there's the world platform of his formal acceptance speech in Oslo. What an opportunity that will be !!!!!

For immediate release (from Rush, Joe, Glenn, etc.)

The People's Republic of Sweden and notorious gang of 5 apparatchiki known as the Nobel Peace Prize Ctte., today mounted a direct assault on the United States with the same bold cunning and similar effect as that employed by the 9/11 terrorists. The Reds are coming and it's high time we ban all international travel, lock the borders and man the torpedos.
