Dudamel is equally impressive conducting Beethoven and Mahler. Newsweek calls him “the Rock Star of Classical Music.”

I’ve heard several of his LiveHD broadcasts in local theaters with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was appointed as their music director at the young age of 28.

“He was appointed as their music director at the young age of 28.”

    For good reason!

The orchestra in the video is probably the Simon Bolivar Orchestra of Venezuela. It is the crowning jewel of the innovative program that takes children from underprivileged neighborhoods and gives them serious, rigorous musical educations. Dudamel is himself a product of that program. It involves thousands of kids all over Venezuela.

Dudamel has started a similar group in LA, and it’s being copied in other cities like Baltimore. He is setting the classical music world on fire. My friend who lives in LA and regularly attends the LA Phil performances, says that when you walk into the hall on a night that Dudamel is to conduct, the air is electric with excitement.
