There were jokes around about "How long will it take Bush to mention September 11 in the SOTUS?" I didn’t time it, but it was soon:
On September the 11th, 2001, we found that problems originating in a failed and oppressive state 7,000 miles away could bring murder and destruction to our country.
How do I know it was very early in the speech? Because it came before I switched back to "The Bulletproof Monk" on FX with what’s_his_name Fat from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Pretty good actually. I’m afraid I can’t watch W. anymore. I’ll read the whole thing later, like in the morning when I have the whole day in front of me to settle down. The only other person I couldn’t watch live was Reagan. I’m going to have to think about why those two.
However, my curiosity was peeked for a moment. Which "oppressive state 7,000 miles away" was he talking about? I guess Afghanistan. It was an immediate piece of spin, however. It’s a buzz-word for the Neoconservatives, "state." It comes from Laurie Mylroie, A.E.I., and the P.N.A.C.’s argument that only "states" can be behind terrorist attacks. We’ve learned how not true that argument is on an hourly basis in Iraq…
