I put the video of Rush Limbaugh’s show on the right not to inflict pain, but as an example of “spin” in action. Media Matters called attention to Rush’s insensitivity and publicized the “phoney soldier” remark. Rush raced out and found a connection between Media Matters and Hillary Clinton. In this rant, he concludes that Hillary Clinton is behind Media Matters, and has directed this “smear campaign” against him because she [they] are so unable to deal with how effective Rush Limbaugh, himself, is is preaching the true Conservative Gospel. He mentions that they didn’t call him up and ask him what he meant before mounting their attack. I wonder how many people Rush calls up before trashing them on the air? He brings up John Kerry and the Swift Boaters attack on him. I wonder if Rush called up Kerry to get his side of the story?
But there’s something about his grandiose conviction when he speaks that is mesmerizing. He twists and turns reality so gracefully that one can get intimidated just listening to him. And the film clip shows that he’s just bristling with both rage and outrage, even when he’s sitting still. I think there must be something about his unflappable aura of confidence that rivets his listeners to the radio.
“I’d really like to say and to reiterate what I’ve said before: Ask me or any other members of VoteVets.org to come on your program and talk to you and tell you how we feel. Don’t just talk bad about us, and when we say ‘hey, that’s not right,’ try to talk bad about us again. And think before you open your mouth.”
RUSH: “In fact, folks, I’m going to say something that might surprise you a bit. I’m beginning to consider the possibility that the Democrats have just moved beyond ideology, in terms of what propels them. And by that I mean, I don’t think that it’s just liberalism that’s propelling them. There is something further and more disastrous and more dangerous going on, and I think they’ve become Stalinist-like. What we’re seeing here from Wesley Clark, Media Matters for America, all the Democrats on the floor of the House and Senate, denouncing me, a private citizen, this is not just liberalism. It’s Stalinist, using the power of the state to intimidate citizens.”
