Just a heresay note: While we were in Boise last weekend, not one Idahoan mentioned Larry Craig while I was around. But my wife told me after we got back that it was apparently the topic of dinner conversation the night before we arrived, and the report was that most people there know that Larry Craig is Gay – have long known it. It’s apparently one of those common knowledge things that just doesn’t get talked about. I still wonder how they felt when he voted anti-Gay all those times? Or how they feel knowing for sure that he’s not telling the truth? Here‘s what the Idaho newspapers have to say.
It’s a legitimate question as to whether an openly Gay person could be elected Senator in a Conservative place like Idaho. But what this case should hightlight is not about a Senator being Gay. Who really cares?. It should focus our attention on the problems engendered by closeting our Homosexual citizens. Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig have all long lived with these conflicts, but seem too caught up in them to speak out about the personal agony of a "closeted" life. They could educate us all and open a dialog about this age-old problem that might raise the level of discourse above the monotonous and uninformed Religious Right dogma…
