    Coin, control and coercion.

    That is physically gut wrenching.

I followed the link & watched the video.

“No is the beginning of yes.”

Unbelievable. I think you’ve just found the 21st century rallying cry of the antipsychiatry movement.

This is outrageous! You mean to tell me that Weiden is a physician??? He’s a sociopath!!!!

I admit that after writing the previous post that defends psychiatry somewhat, reading this ad made me want to retract it. I hope this is the bottom of something. It’s pathetic…

I have said it before, and I will say it again…..nothing really has changed…..the thoughtful critics & concerned advocates are being isolated to a contained spot located somewhere in the middle of a vast ocean; where their voices are but whispers muffled against the ever present roar of the pharmaceutical marketing machine. These profitable lies told a millions of times over are being made into a hellish truth by the sheer virtue of the endless beating drum of repetition.

On my iPod I could not get the link to work.

But I’ll share this gem today: a patient comes in after seen in an urgent care center a few days ago and after a cursory exam, told she has “a serotonin deficit” and given scripts for Prozac and Ativan. Fortunately she made an appt to see a psychiatrist for a more detailed assessment.

How many patients don’t do so? By the way, she left set up with a therapist and to use the Ativan prn.

Whomever coined the term “biochemical imbalance” needs to be taken out back and locked in an outhouse just used by the guys in the scene by the campfire from “Blazing Saddles”. Maybe after an hour or so, the teary eyed individual might have that epiphany, once finished the retching, and reconsider dumbing down a profession that is about multiple interventions.

I really was happy that patient was wise enough to seek out more information and treatment options. Her relating that “serotonin deficit” was just so absurd!

As I have said before, if it was that simple, why hasn’t the prevalence of mental health declined precipitously in the past 10 or so years? I guess economic woes, wars, and political decline of the likes mirroring the fall of the Roman Empire are not energizing the public, eh?
