Teddy…

There’s nothing much good to say about Ted Kennedy’s diagnosis of Malignant Glioma. But there’s plenty good to say about Ted Kennedy. I recall him speaking at a March on the one year anniversary of MLK’s assasination. It was an unruly gathering, interrupted by outbreaks of violence from black power supporters, tear gas drifting through the crowd. He just kept on talking through it all. That was right before Chappaquiddick, and he talked about that. During the Big Sleeps of the Reagan years and the Bush[s] years, he just kept on talking. He’s probably been the recipient of more right-wing contempt and sarcasm, the brunt of more hate jokes than any other, and he kept on talking. His voice will also be missed more than almost any other – at least by a lot of us. He stands for something that matters. A sad day…
