So, we’re off at 0-dark-thirty in the morning headed to get on a ship to go down the west coast of Mexico. I’m leaving the election for you guys to wrap up in my absence. The ten business day graph of the DOW above updates when you refresh your browser. I’d appreciate your trying to nudge it up above 10,000 while we’re gone [but I’m not hopeful].
I’m feeling kind of upbeat about the Obama Campaign right now. My poll site [FiveThirtyEight] is looking good for the team [538 is the number of electoral votes].
I’ve never cared this much about an election. I doubt that any of us have. But the hoped for victory is only the end of the beginning. At the risk of being corny, Obama is going to need us more afterwards than he does right now. There is an army of resentful conservatives out there, and Rush Limbaugh and Fox News won’t go away. I think part of our job will be to help those people find a way to remain whatever they want to be, but to get on board the effort to rebuild America – the America that their last guys almost destroyed. America needs conservatives. We just don’t need corrupt neo-fascist conservatives. America needs Joe Sixpack and Joe the Plumber, but we don’t need the Aryan Nation or the wrong end of the Religious Right. So although the future looks hard to me, at least, we are going to have a future to work with…
Note: Remember, John McCain is on Dave Letterman tonight!
Have a great time!
