Yesterday afternoon, the storms came through stacked on top of each other. Before the power went out, the t.v. guy said it was the first PDS we’d ever had in North Georgia ["Potentially Dangerous Situation"]. The one that hit us was fast and furious. Our brave dogs protected Sharon [or was it the other way around?]. We fared well, but a mile down the road, a tornado cut through the woods snapping trees like twigs. It’s hard to photograph devastation, but there was plenty to be seen. This was a dense forest yesterday morning – no longer. They cleared the roads and the power was only off for 24 hours. No one was hurt, but it will be a decade before the forest returns. Nature’s something else, and it takes a while to feel thankful for what didn’t happen…
I knew there were storms and tornadoes in the area, but I didn’t know it came so near you guys. Glad you were spared.
In this day and time, when I wonder if the paltry amount of news still in print newspapers makes it worth the trees, it’s sad to see any trees lost.
Ah, well, perhaps some enterprising forester will scoop up the debris and sell it for pulpwood to make paper for newsprint. Except that they have already cut their reporting staff so there’s not much news to print.
I’m glad all of you are allright. Great picture of your wife and your dogs.
There had to be some scary moments in Jasper. When I first saw your photo my heart sunk low – I am very relieved that the furies left you all be. I’ve been on a news (can’t recall your apt term) hiatus and was checking in to see if you’d weighed in on the new ‘Barbary’ pirates issue. Interesting reading…the situation went on for hundreds of years on account of competition among the European powers and their respective capitalist traders.
Peace on you all.
Poor, poor doggies! So skeered. Glad you emerged unscathed and that the Lipscombs weren’t home.
I was definitely protecting the dogs. First the smaller one jumped on my lap, then the larger one jumped on top of him. It was a bit crowded, but warm.
