This hermaphroditic statue was unveiled in Memphis on July 4th – a monument to tastelessness rivalling Graceland’s shag carpets and sequinned leisure suits.

My first reaction was that it was a target for North Korea’s missles or maybe Al Qaeda. But as offensive as it is, in some ways, it so concretizes the insane direction pointed by our government and the Religious Right that fuels it, it’s kind of fitting. Armed with the ten commandments, a cross, with a tear rolling down her cheek, Lady Liberty stands over the grounds of the World Overlook Church while their ad in the Memphis newspaper decries homosexuality.

America, Land of the Free, Home of the Tacky. Elmer Gantry, eat your heart out…

I love Ralph’s scandals! Our longtime friend, Jim Martin, one of his Democratic opponents, has just been endorsed by our Republican governer. Jim is painfully honest, earnest, and smart…

: ) Joy in the just! ~ I’ll watch him, thanks. Any forecast on the “Rob Georgia” factor for the upcoming tallying?

For those who haven’t figured it out, Mickey has the tendency to do our search work for us. If one merely left clicks on the picture itself, you’ll be linked to the article. Mickey is not only an enjoyable and intelligent read; he’s also an easy one. Thanks, Mickey!

Thanks, Joe. I still sometimes look for the “bug” links… (ladybugs, etc.) : )

Mickey, I’d like to think you are correct, but Jim was endorsed by our former governor, Democrat Roy Barnes.
