Cheney Says Eavesdropping Program Might Have Prevented 9/11, which might be true. Who in the hell is arguing with that? Our argument is with the National Security Agency wiretapping private Americans without judicial review, not with the need to have surveillance of Terrorists.
This kind of response is getting very old. They’re explaining why they’re doing something, after the fact, and implying that anyone who criticizes them is an idiot or doesn’t get our need for security. Let’s be real clear on this point. We know it is important to have someone monitoring Terrorist activities related to the United States. We saw the Twin Trade Towers fall down too. We’re not upset about responding to our need for security and Intelligence information.
What we’re upset about is your doing it with no review of what you are doing. A lot of us don’t trust you, Dick Cheney! And we don’t trust your friend George W. Bush either. You’ve earned our mistrust. We are well within our rights to feel our mistrust and to demand that you respect the laws of this country. You are way outside your rights by going around our safeguards against abuse of power.
Stop talking down to us and start listening…
And speaking of not trusting Mr. Bush, what is this "signing agreement" business? It’s hard to follow [here‘s some help] but what it says is that in signing McCain’s anti-torture bill, he [Bush] is interpreting it as something he’ll follow unless he doesn’t want to.
He seems to think his wartime powers are infinite. I guess the only way to deal with him is to stop the war, so he won’t have any wartime powers anymore, though an equally appealing idea is to fire him for insubordination. Seriously, he just doesn’t know when to stand down…
Character flaw? No. It’s a Character Chasm!
Wouldn’t that smart Dr Rice just see those clues they MIGHT have gained illegally spying on Americans as just another ‘Historic Document?”
Hey, is the NSA spying on you yet? Apparently they might have spied on Christine Amanpour (and possibly Bill Clinton, John Kerry, and Wesley Clark).
