- Delegating to the President on Torture
- Interrogators Left Out in the Cold: White House Legal and Political Missteps Led to an Unneeded Duel Over Detainees
- Bush Gets His Way
Pay no attention to the news stories suggesting that the White House caved in yesterday. On the central issue of whether the CIA should continue using interrogation methods on suspected terrorists that many say constitute torture, the White House got its way, winning agreement from the "maverick" Republican senators who had refused to go along with an overt undoing of the Geneva Conventions.
The "compromise"? The Republican senators essentially agreed to look the other way.
Once again there was so much disingenuousness flying through the airwaves that straight news reporting simply wasn’t up to the task of conveying the real meaning of the day.…
Who kows why they do it, give in to Pitiful Petulent President Bush over and over. As friend Ralph says, "And the worst feeling is that we seemed so close to having these three Republican senators standing up to the idiot, and then EVEN THEY caved. I’d given up on Specter long ago for repeatedly doing the same thing. What do you suppose the Bushies have on all these people that they can always make them give in?"
I think that myself at times. What’s he got [on them]? It sure isn’t his brains or personality. He’s a jerk, dull normal or less intelligence, and he’s extremely literal. But the point is, once again, he has to win no matter what, and this is a mighty shameful battle to win – how to get around the Geneva Conventions and torture people. He seems to be aspiring to the role of "Terrorist" himself.
Reckon there’s such a thing as "Terrorist Envy" that Freud forgot to mention?
