Both of your resignations came after revelations of personal behavior that was in marked contrast to your public stance on important issues in the current political scene. You resigned, and then both disappeared into "recovery programs." As you know, there is a big question on the American agenda about homosexuality. Is it a choice or is it a natural state? As people who have taken strong positions on this issue, it is incumbant on both of you as public figures to address your confusing behavior in a public forum rather than hiding in disgrace. As loud voices in this debate, we need to know what you have to say now…

You have repeatedly told us that homosexuality is a sin and is unacceptible in American life. You have supported the Ex-Gay ministries that proport to cure sinners from the their homosexual impulses. Yet, in the case of a single such sinner, Pastor Ted Haggard who has apparently asked for your help, you now tell us that you "don’t have time" to involve yourself with him, saying that it will take "four or five years." From our perspective, it seems like you don’t really believe in what you’re saying. If you don’t have time to help a friend, how can you, in good conscience, keep preaching your monotonous sermon? Please enlighten us…

For a number of years, James Dobson and a number other evangelical Christians have been falsely preaching that there is a homosexual agenda to convert people to homosexuality. The centerpiece of their argument is the notion that homosexuality is a [sinful] choice rather than a natural state, inborn. In the course of pursuing this idiosyncratic notion, they have exorted you to vote for a Republican Administration that has lied us into a terrible war, practiced torture, and corrupted our government. As evidenced by one of your leaders, Ted Haggard, homosexuality is simply a way of being, not a sign of satanic infestation. Please come to your senses and worship in a Christian Church that follows the teachings of Jesus Christ rather than the hate filled pseudo-religion of these obvious charlatans. And love homosexuals as your neighbors, other children of God.
