I think that on this day, someone made history. That someone was Marcy Wheeler – or emptywheel as she is known at The Next Hurrah.
Her live blogging of the Scooter Libby Trial was one of the most exciting media events ever. It reminded me of the console radio days of my childhood, or the McCarthy Hearings on T.V. in the 1950’s, or the first moon landing, or the Watergate Hearings, or the Boys of Bahgdad during the start of the first Gulf War. I spent the whole afternoon fighting the impulse to refresh my computer more often that every 15 minutes to get the latest update from the courtroom. It was things like this that made it so gripping:
She’s got her head to one side, she’s looking down at something. I know she’s not, but she looks like she’s sneaking a peak at her blackberry. Slumps back in the seat. She shakes her head, rolls her eyes, wipes lint off her jacket, which may be velvet.
Sitting there with frown on face. Looks grumpy.
It was like an old Raymond Chandler Mystery and a Le Carre` Thriller rolled into one – but it was real, and it was live. Streaming history, at its best…
