Swopa swoops…

Bloggers have somewhat subspecialized these days. emptywheel is the Plamologist. eriposte is the Niger Forgery expert. Arianna is Russert’s shadow. And Swopa is obsessed with the famous 1X2X6 issue. What is 1X2X6? It’s from a September 28, 2003 article in the Washington Post by Mike Allen and Dana Priest.
Bush Administration Is Focus of Inquiry
CIA Agent’s Identity Was Leaked to Media

Yesterday, a senior administration official said that before Novak’s column ran, two top White House officials called at least six Washington journalists and disclosed the identity and occupation of Wilson’s wife. Wilson had just revealed that the CIA had sent him to Niger last year to look into the uranium claim and that he had found no evidence to back up the charge. Wilson’s account touched off a political fracas over Bush’s use of intelligence as he made the case for attacking Iraq.

"Clearly, it was meant purely and simply for revenge," the senior official said of the alleged leak.

For some time, Swopa [of needlenose.com and last week’s liveblogger for the Libby Trial on Firedoglake.com], has been on the case of 1x2x6. Well, this morning, he lays his thesis out on the Huffington Post in Hiding in Plame Sight: The Blockbuster Story No One Is Reporting from the Libby Trial. I’ll not quote it here. It needs to be read from top to bottom. But here’s the gist of it. The "1" in the equation is actually two. Swopa argues that on July 12th, Cheney tasked Libby to alert the media about Valerie Plame’s C.I.A. status while they were aboard Air Force Two. The "2" were Ari Fleischer and Dan Bartlett, aboard Air Force 1 calling the "6" reporters. The senior administration official source for the Washington Post article was someone who overheard them on Air Force 1 – Colin Powell? What Swopa thinks Libby is covering up is Cheney’s telling him to leak, directly, on July 12th.

So read Swopa’s article. Why? Because his hypothesis explains a lot and is a direct line to Cheney as Mr. "1" in the equation. Swopa thinks Fitzgerald knows this…
