There’s a good article in the Christian Science Monitor about the number of coming investigations of Administration goings-on. They mention the lost Phase II of the congressional investigation of the prewar Iraq Intelligence – the one about the Administration’s distortion of the facts. This is a remarkable piece of sleight of hand. Senator Pat Roberts [Republican – Kansas] has effectively stonewalled the promised Phase II investigation of the prewar Iraq Intelligence over the repeated efforts of Democratic Senators Rockefeller, Levin and Feinstein to make it happen. Senator Harry Reid’s recent ‘closed session’ of the Senate was about this investigation, or its absence. Part of the hold-up is the Pentagon’s refusal to turn over the proceedings of the Office of Special Plans, set up by Paul Wolfowitz and Donald Feith, both of whom have left government. 
The story involves Michael Ledeen [Iran Contra Broker, AEI fellow, Neoconservative extrordinaire, Prophet of Fascism], Harold Rhode [anti-Moslem Pentagon employee], Larry Franklin [recently indicted for passing classified information to Israel], Iran-Contra arms dealer Manucher Ghorbanifar, and may have something to do with the Niger Yellowcake Uranium forgeries. Of all the potential smoking guns, this is the one with the most sinister aura, and it’s the one that has been blocked completely by the Administration. Of the many investigations mentioned in the article cited above, Phase II of the Senate Intelligence Report needs to have the highest priority. The cast of characters alone is enough to say that there’s something very rotten in this story. Very rotten indeed…
