This is an excerpt from the Sheriff’s report of the Cheney Shooting episode [glad Officer San Miguel was comfortable]. The Cast of characters included 3 guides and 6 principals:
The sun was setting in the Western Sky, just 10 degrees above the horizon.
The guess-timated positions of the principals were as follows:
From the GPS reading in the report, the shooting occurred West of the Highway which apparently bisects this huge piece of property.
There are only a few things that can be said for sure, given the sketchy nature of the report:
- Katherine Armstrong was not an eye-witness. She didn’t even see what happened. She was at the car, 130 yards away from the action.
- Cheney was looking into the Sun which was just above the horizon when he fired.
- Cheney swung some 180 degrees to shoot.
- He was swinging his gun and shooting at a low flying quail. He shot almost level with the ground. Are they really shooting ‘clipped wing’ quail? Is that why the bird was flying so low to the ground?
- Cheney has good tastes in hunting partners – Pamela Willeford.
- There were three eye-witnesses: the Quail, Pamela Willeford, and Harry Whittington. We’ve not heard much from the main witness who can speak, Pamela. Willeford.
- In a modern world, ‘we’ can spy on private citizens and invade personal space too. I’d love to ask them, "How does it feel?"
Not present for the weekend: Lynn Cheney, wife of Dick Cheney; Karen Johnson, lobbyist, business partner of Katherine Armstrong, and reputedly involved in a longtermed affair with Karl Rove; and the Roves [Karl’s first business was financed by Katherine Armstrong’s father, Tobin Armstrong]:
