This man is either crazy or incompetent or both. He’s the new captain of the "spin team" and he makes a lot of noise. His name is Peter Hoekstra and he is a Republican Congressman from Michigan. Currently, he’s ranting that the C.I.A. is the source of the leaks about the N.S.A. spying and that it’s a deliberate attempt to help Al Qaeda. He begins with, "I don’t have any evidence. But from my perspective …" His "perspective" is pretty monotonous. Shades of Eugene McCarthy or Laurie Mylroie [as in Bush vs. the Beltway : How the CIA and the State Department Tried to Stop the War on Terror, Laurie Mylroie].

Which brings up a huge point. The focus on the Plame leak has centered on the attempt to discredit Joseph Wilson. I wonder if that’s only a secondary motive. They’ve been hammering at the C.I.A. since way before Bush was elected!
