The Bush Doctrine
  1. Preemption: A policy of pre-emptive war, should the US or its allies be threatened by terrorists or by rogue states that are engaged in the production of weapons of mass destruction.
  2. Unilateralism: The right of the US to pursue unilateral military action when acceptable multi-lateral solutions cannot be found.
  3. Strength Beyond Challenge: The policy that United States has, and intends to keep, military strengths beyond challenge, indicating the US intends to take actions as necessary to continue its status as the world’s sole military superpower.
  4. Extending Democracy, Liberty, and Security to All Regions: A policy of actively promoting democracy and freedom in all regions of the world.

Let’s see – how are we doing? We’ve unilaterally started preemptive wars in Afghanistan and Iraq – seem to be losing both [1] [2]. According to the Generals testifying in Congress on Monday, our Army and Marine Corps are in a really shaky state [3]. And as to how it’s going with spreading Democracy to the Middle East – not so good [4].

Looks like 0 for 4 to me…
