why Foley matters…

Posted on Saturday 7 October 2006

In fact, the Foley scandal should be about getting this rotten apple out of the barrel and protecting the Pages, kids who go to Washington for something more than this man has given them. But the scandal is much more important than that. It is a paradigm of the Republican stronghold on our government. First, it is typical that keeping the problems secret is their watchword. Second, these people are lying outright. This is a problem of the Morals and Ethics of the Republican Party itself, and it is typical.

The whole Executive Branch was warned about an al Qaeda attack and ignored the warnings. They actively lied about those warnings. They still are lying about them. Condi Rice is telling us right now that an urgent meeting to warn her about al Qaeda didn’t happen. Well it did happen. We were told that the White House was not involved in the C.I.A. Valerie Plame leak. Armitage, Libby, Rove were the leakers – all White House Staff. It just goes on and on. There is an ethical vacuum that pervades the Party, and it’s everywhere. So when Foley is found out to be a sexual predator, it’s covered up and forgotten, repeatedly.

It does matter, because the American people haven’t awakened to the fact that America has a corrupt government, and everyone in the world knows it. In the past, we’ve gotten milage out of the moral high ground. Bush takes it in every speech, but no one believes it except his loyal constituents. Right now, he’s defending Hastert, when he ought to be calling him in and eating him a new asshole.

We cannot aford to overlook anything, anymore…
