remember Foley?

Former Rep. Mark Foley, who resigned over sexually explicit messages sent to male congressional pages, is remaining in treatment for alcoholism beyond his initial 30-day stay, his attorney said Wednesday.

Foley checked into a 30-day treatment program at the Sierra Tucson center near Tucson on Oct. 1. There was no immediate indication how much longer Foley would remain there.

"I can’t say any information other than he’s still there," attorney Gerald Richman told the Associated Press.
It’s remarkable that this story’s as dead as it is right now. I’m not sure whether there’s a way they get these stories to go away, or the news cycle is so fast these days that they just die this quickly. In the ancient history of my youth, this would have gone on forever.

But, about hiding in rehab. It’s fine with me. Maybe it will help. The only issue is if they can find any underage contacts so as to make him a registered sex-offender. It’s a powerful deterrent, being a registered sex offender. Likewise, it will be interesting to see if the alcoholism is a real issue or a "hidie hole" issue.

Foley isn’t the point – he’s busted. It’s still a question of some import the behavior of the House Leadership, assuming Hastert, Boehner, and Reynolds get reelected. By any rational criteria, they should be on their way to private lives…
