On July 8 he wrote down notes in which Rove said, people are taking Wilson as a credible expert. 2 days go by, he calls Matalin for advice. She tells him, she gives him strategy. We need someone who can sum it up. This is fitting into Democratic story. It has legs. The story’s not going away. We need to address Wilson motivation. The President should wave his wand. "Call Tim," Mary Matalin, he hates Chris, he needs to know it all.

And how did Mary Matalin know to say, "We need to address Wilson motivation?" I suppose one could take this as, ‘Let’s use an ad hominem attack for the dirty trick this time.’ Lord knows, it’s an Administration favorite. But, it sounds to me like she knew about Joseph Wilson’s wife being a C.I.A. Agent. By this time, Libby certainly knew. And she didn’t work in the White House any more [eg security clearance?]:
Mary Matalin, Assistant to the President and Counselor to the Vice President, will be returning to the private sector, effective December 31, 2002. Catherine J. Martin, will be named Assistant to the Vice President for Public Affairs.
