…Well, check out whom Rudy Giuliani’s daughter favors in the 2008 race: Barack Obama.…But what does it mean that two of the people who know Giuliani the best–his son and daughter–are not aboard his presidential express? (Earlier this year, his son said he would not be campaigning for the old man.) What a good query for social conservatives and any debate moderator.
And imagine if the Giuliani kids were to explain their opposition to their father’s presidential bid. How would Giuliani’s campaign spinners spin that? Claim that he spoiled them? The Giuliani soap opera (and I haven’t even mentioned his past and present wives) has the potential to eclipse the Clinton soap opera. That would be some accomplishment.
This is certainly not the most important news coming out of Washington, but it deserves note. This man is Presidential material, like Bush before him, only because the Republicans are looking for someone to run. He’s not distinguished himself except for having name recognition [because of 911]. I wonder if his kids will speak out. I shudder to think that America could possibly elect another one of these lackluster people based on fear, ideology, or prejudice…
If my dad ran, I’d vote for him. 😀
Talking about Giuliani and his kids reminded me of what I just read in todays NYTimes, a front page story about how Bush 1 is suffering because of all the criticism on his son Bush2. Basicly, I was livid when I read the piece because I don’t give a rat’s ass how much he is suffering as a father because his son is being criticized. I do care deeply for all the people who have died in this terrible Iraq war and for the suffering of the Mothers and Fathers whose children didn’t have to die for George W Bush’s war. I’m so mad at the NYTimes for making this a front page story, I’m considering canceling my subscription. I’m sorry to put such an angry comment here, but I think the situation the country is in right now is awful. The Democrats keep giving this SOB what he wants. What he deserves is a swift kick in the teeth and more. I think he should be placed in a cell with pictures of those young faces of soldiers plastered all over his walls. I guess that’s a little dark but I don’t care. If Bush 1 had said I’m sorry for the pain and disaray that the country is going through, I’d have a hell of a lot more respect for him. The article was all about his pain and for his son.
“If Bush 1 had said I’m sorry for the pain and disaray that the country is going through, I’d have a hell of a lot more respect for him. The article was all about his pain and for his son.” Well put. I had the same feeling when they were talking about Scooter Libby’s family, etc. It’s as if the country is “for” them, not the other way around. I think Surely Papa Bush knew that Junior wasn’t up to the task.
Abby,
I appreciate the support, but I’m over Chief. Me, I’m an Indian who “will work for food.”
I don’t think kids “know their parents best.” They know their parent, yes, but do they know the professional persona of their parent. Probably not, so the fact that his kids don’t support him doesn’t really sway my opinion of Mr. Guiliani. What sways my opinion are the voices of the firefighters and others from NYC that are shouting against him because of the way he handled the pre and post- 9/11 situation. I think the inside perspective of how he failed a city is clear enough evidence that this man is not qualified to run a country that is in crisis. And we are just that- in crisis.
