I don’t mind Ryan Crocker having a strong opinion about what we should do in Iraq – whether he was picked because of his opinion, or he has his opinions because he was picked, or that it’s something that is just what he thinks. But I do mind him being a lobbyist – which is what his opening statement was about today. He lectured us that we couldn’t draw down any. Not his job!

Crocker and Petraeus throw around terms like battlefield geometry and diplomatic calculus, but it would seem that they’re overlooking simple arithmetic, adding up the costs of their war…
