Jim Martin…

Posted on Wednesday 5 November 2008

It appears that the late ballots did, after all, bring incumbent Republican Saxby Chambliss under 50% in his race against Jim Martin, and so a special election will be held December 2, four weeks after the yesterday’s election day.

In special elections, turnout is generally way down from general elections. It becomes much more about base motivation, organization, and GOTV. So, although Jim Martin appears to have been behind by a handful of points last night, don’t assume he can’t win a special election, even if the polls show him behind in every release.

As we said last night, we’ve been getting emails from organizers who had already purchased their plane tickets to come down to Georgia. It won’t be for a 60th seat, but it will be a seat nonetheless, and Democrats will have the rallying cry of "Remember Max Cleland!" Chambliss defeated Cleland in 2002 after airing a notorious ad that tied war hero Cleland to Osama bin Laden.

Keep an eye on this race, especially for the influx of organizing.
As I’ve said here before, this Senate race in Georgia is bigger than just getting another Democratic Senator. Saxby Chambliss got elected by trashing Max Cleland. Once elected, he was a Republican Hatchet-man. I’d bet money he’s corrupt, the real kind. Jim Martin is a friend of over thirty years. A scrupulously honest, humble, public servant. I got this email this morning.
Please join me for one of two emergency meetings tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. or Friday at 8:00 a.m. at the offices of Kilpatrick Stockton, 1100 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309 on the 28th floor to discuss our runoff strategy. I have invited you and a group of my most generous supporters to hear how we intend to win in 28 days.
I can’t go, but I know what Jim needs – money. Chambliss has outspent him five to one. Jim’s a metro candidate. The only way for him to win is mobilize the african american vote state-wide. If you haven’t spent your way into political debt, send him some cash. He’s only operating on donations from people like us – no lobbyists. I sent some more today.
We can use all the help we can get!

I detested what that shitbird did to Max Cleland and not just because Max couldn’t get up off his chair and level the scumbag either. What slime and obfuscation! No great surprise to learn he is a racist dog to boot. I’ma try sick Cynthia McKinney on him – serve that old John Birch man right. I’ll try to send your friend a donation too.
