That article in the New York Times this morning [Democrats Outrun by a 2-Year G.O.P. Comeback Plan] was worse for me than the election itself. Obviously, with all my Klan illusions in that last post, I found it beyond infuriating. Essentially, what it said is that everything that’s happened in the last two years to the present has been part of a carefully orchestrated campaign to get the Republicans back into power – block voting "No," Boehner’s "Oh My God!", demonizing anyone who didn’t play ball [eg Arlen Specter], Joe Wilson’s "you lie!", Talk TV, Talk Radio, birthers, moslem-ers, socialist-ers, fascist-ers, communist-ers, etc. The whole point has been about winning back Congress [“Our mission statement was to retire . That was the whole mission statement.” – Pete Sessions (R-TX)]. Coming up now, the same deal with a slightly different focus [ “The single most important thing we want to achieve, is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” – Mitch McConnell (R-KY)]. There’s actually a name for this sort of thing:
Sedition: In law, sedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization, that is deemed by the legal authority to tend toward insurrection against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent [or resistance] to lawful authority.
Of all the times to totally focus on political goals and oppose every attempt to make some kind of progress for the people they serve, the Great Recession was sure a bad choice unless the only goal of government is political power. They would say that their oppositionalism was because Obama’s policies were bad – but no one in their right mind would believe them. That’s simply plausible deniability.
Sadly, it worked [again]…
And on top of all this, states will be redrawing congressional districts — with the aid and directives of an increased number of Republican governors and Republican control of state legislators. Every local level political map that turned redder in 2010 will make it easy to get even redder in 2012 and beyond.
