Two weeks ago, I reported on the case of chicken little…, an eight year old girl whose fear that the "sky was falling" turned out to be related to her reaction to a close call tornado scare some five months earlier. I mentioned that I had gotten a note that she was much improved a week later. I thought I’d just give some follow-up since I saw her this last Tuesday. She came in smiling, and I said, "How are you doing with that tornado fear?"
She, got a mildly serious look on her face and said, "I was doing great until one came down my street." Then she and her mother started laughing. Living here, I knew what they were talking about. We had another outbreak of tornados a week ago when Tropical Storm Lee made it up here from the Gulf. More scary television and power outages. I asked where they lived. "Ball Ground," and they laughed even more. Ball Ground is a small town south of here [site of a Cherokee ball field in former times]. That’s where one of the tornados touched down. What they were laughing about was that they thought it was hilarious that she’d gotten over her irrational fear of tornados, and then a real one came to her street. They thought it was a fine joke on me. So did I.
Wonderful Story!
I can only imagine what this poor child would have suffered had you not helped her overcome her fears previously. Kudos!!
