The White House has praised a plan by Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) to draft legislation that would exempt the NSA program from FISA, while providing for congressional oversight. <\/p>\n

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said that Bush "is open to ideas from Congress regarding legislation, and we’ve committed to working with Congress on a bill."<\/p>\n

I’m personally getting over Congress treating Mr. Bush as if he’s a reasonable person. In the Senate Judicial Committee hearings, Gonzoles said that they’d be glad to hear Congress’ suggestions. Now, he’s lobbying Congress to just give him what he seized, or saying he wants oversight without the F.I.S.A. court involved. That’s not how it works. A thief doesn’t get to negotiate what he gives back when he gets caught. An embezzler doesn’t get to pick his court and jury. <\/div>\n

The law is clear. Bush ignored it. It’s for Congress to enforce its own laws. In addition, what we know about the N.S.A. warrantless domestic surveillance is only from whistle blowers, not from investigation. No telling what they’ve been doing. We found out about torture and thought it was a few nuts. Now we know it was policy.<\/div>\n
