Later, in a scathing 2005 letter entitled &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/documents\/Madoff_SECdocs_20081217.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><font color=\"#200020\">The World&#8217;s Largest Hedge Fund is a Fraud<\/font><\/strong><\/a>,&quot; he outlines no less than 28 red flags about the Operation and suggests two possible scenarios for Bernard Madoff&#8217;s fraud, the <strong><em>highly likely<\/em><\/strong> one being that it was a <strong>Ponzi Scheme<\/strong>. The documents are in tomorrow&#8217;s <strong>Wall Street Journal<\/strong> [subscription only] but I expect we&#8217;ll all see them soon enough [<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB122956182184616625.html\" target=\"_blank\">Madoff Misled SEC in &#8217;06, Got Off<\/a><\/strong>]. Markopolos nailed the case all on his own, and turned it in repeatedly to the <strong>S.E.C<\/strong>. even though he stood to gain nothing by doing so.
