{"id":3090,"date":"2009-05-06T01:10:52","date_gmt":"2009-05-06T06:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/1boringoldman.com\/?p=3090"},"modified":"2009-05-06T01:10:52","modified_gmt":"2009-05-06T06:10:52","slug":"shes-good","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1boringoldman.com\/index.php\/2009\/05\/06\/shes-good\/","title":{"rendered":"she&#8217;s good!"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/emptywheel.firedoglake.com\/2009\/05\/05\/dougie-feiths-little-shop-of-tortures\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Dougie Feith&rsquo;s Little Shop of Tortures?<\/strong><\/a><br \/> By: <font color=\"#003333\"><strong>emptywheel<\/strong><\/font><br \/> May 5, 2009<\/div>\n<p align=\"justify\">I just happened to find Dougie Feith&#8217;s responses to Questions for the Record the Senate Intelligence Committee asked him in 2003&#8230;<\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">He said his little intelligence shop helped formulate policy on:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div align=\"justify\">DoD response to the presence in Iraq of the al-Qaida affiliated Ansar al-Islam terrorist group.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"justify\">DoD response to the presence in Iraq of al-Qaida operative Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his CB W network.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div align=\"justify\">Helping to formulate requirements for the debriefings of al-Qaida fighters detained at Guantanamo and Bagram.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"justify\">&quot;Helping to formulate requirements for the debriefings of al-Qaida fighters?!?!?!?!&quot; What the hell does that mean? How do you formulate policy requirements for interrogations? I don&#8217;t know, really, but I wonder if it has something to do with this: <\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<ul>[T]his is my opinion, even though they were giving information and some of it was useful, while we were there a large part ofthe time we were focused on trying to establish a link between AI Qaeda and Iraq and we were not being successful in establishing a link between AI Qaeda and Iraq. The more frustrated people got in not being able to establish this link, there was more and more pressure to resort to measures that might produce more immediate results.<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">Or this, coming from Dougie&#8217;s boss, Paul Wolfowitz:<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<ul>Mr. Becker also told the Committee that, on several occasions, MG Dunlavey had advised him that the office of Deputy Secretary of Defense Wolfowitz had called to express concerns about the insufficient intelligence production at GTMO.<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">Or this: <\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<ul>Mr. Haynes&#8217;s memo stated that he had discussed the issue with Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, Undersecretary ofDefense for Policy Doug Feith, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) General Richard Myers and that they concurred with his recommendation.  <\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">Anyone want to speculate whether or not Dougie Feith was giving the torturers a script to focus on Iraq&#8217;s specious ties to al Qaeda?<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div align=\"justify\">In spite of swearing off a preoccupation with the Iraq War and the Torture Memos, I am commenting on this post by <font color=\"#003333\"><strong>emptywheel<\/strong><\/font>. As usual, she&#8217;s sees more than the rest of us, or at least than I see. I was looking at the exact same data <a href=\"http:\/\/1boringoldman.com\/index.php\/2009\/05\/01\/09082002\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>recently<\/strong><\/a>, but I didn&#8217;t think of <font color=\"#300030\"><strong>Doug Feith<\/strong><\/font> [at least not in this context]. But of course that&#8217;s a very good question. Doug Feith&#8217;s reason-for-being as Paul Wolfowitz&#8217;s assistant was to nail down the connection between al Qaeda and Hussein. He put together a slide show. He sent Memos. He probably leaked his own Memo to the <strong>Weekly Standard<\/strong>. And as <font color=\"#003333\"><strong>emptywheel<\/strong><\/font> unearths, he said it was his task to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
