It&#8217;s the story of Burma [Myanmar] which is under a military dictatorship backed by the world&#8217;s largest standing army. Since my summary in 2007 [<a href=\"http:\/\/1boringoldman.com\/?p=1676\" target=\"_blank\">getting up to speed on Burma&#8230;<\/a>], much has changed, but one thing has stayed the same &#8211; Nobel Peace Laureate <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aung_San_Suu_Kyi\">Aung San Suu Kyi<\/a>. After years of prison and house arrest, she is free and her democratic reform party appears to be heading for a huge victory [<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/news\/world\/2015\/11\/10\/myanmar-vote-has-opposition-party-confident-landslide\/2s08PjPXnHhujBKKocPWtK\/story.html?s_campaign=email_BG_TodaysHeadline&#038;s_campaign=\">Myanmar vote has opposition party confident of landslide<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-34773858\" target=\"_blank\">Myanmar&#8217;s Aung San Suu Kyi: NLD has won election majority<\/a> &#8211; <em>with video interview<\/em>]. The last time around [1990], the military shut the country down. It&#8217;s doubtful that they will be able to pull that off now.
