subversives…

Representative C. W. Bill Young of Florida seems like a regular Republican guy. He’s serving his 18th term in Congress, he’s chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. He’s getting his share from the Mississippi Choctaw Indians. It’s hard to understand why his wife, Beverely, would show up at the State of the Union Message protesting the War in Iraq by wearing a subversive tee-shirt. One would think an upright guy like Bill could keep his wife under control…

I mean, we can understand Cindy Sheehan‘s protests. She always been a pinko

It’s really not a bit funny. Cindy Sheehan is a brave lady. She’s been maligned, ignored, accused of grandstanding, and mocked. But what she is is pretty simple. She’s a mother who lost her son in a wrongly waged war. One would hardly expect her to wear anything else. Like Beverly Young, she was exerting her right to free speech. What is wrong with these people?

Beverly Young, the wife of Representative C.W. Bill Young (news, bio, voting record), a Florida Republican who chairs the House Defense Appropriations subcommittee, showed for the State of the Union address up sporting a t-shirt that read, "Support the Troops — Defending Our Freedom." When Capitol Police asked her to leave the gallery about her wearing clothing that featured a political message, Mrs. Young says, she argued loudly with officers and called one of them "an idiot."

But Mrs. Young was not handcuffed. She was not dragged from the Capitol. She was not arrested. She was not jailed.

Sheehan, who caused no ruckus, was arrested not because she engaged in "unlawful conduct." Rather, by every evidence, she was arrested because of what her t-shirt said — and, by extension, because of what she believes.

Ms. Young’s tee-shirt said "Support Our Troops." So did Cindy’s. Ms. Young does support our troops. So does Cindy.
