where’s the beef?

And here‘s a rare thing – a publisher acknowledging an under-covered story [R.F.K. Jr’s article in Rolling Stone on the fraud in the 2004 election].

For a real treat, catch the C-Span video of the C.I.A. Leak Panel at yearlyKos. It’s a 12 [on a scale from 1 to 10]!

The thing that was missing in the C.I.A. Leak Investigation Panel, however, was what seems to me to be the essence of things. I’m not criticizing the Panel. Their job was to discuss what they discussed, and they did it beautifully. Joseph Wilson touched on the larger point. Larry Johnson mentioned it. But no one nailed it. It’s no longer that Plame’s identity was leaked by the Administration. We all know that happened. It’s not why it was leaked. We all know why – to discredit her husband who accused the Bush Administration of lying about the Iraq/Niger Uranium story. The story is not Wilson, or Plame, or Rove, or Fitzgerald. Wilson has made this point endlessly, and I’m afraid it’s discounted as some kind of false humility.

The story is that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney ignored the perpetrators of the 911 attack, Al Qaeda, before, during, and after it happened. In every way possible, they used this event instead to take over our government and reshape it into something that even their own constituents wouldn’t agree with if they took the time to rise above the rhetoric and look at.

Behind the patriotic haze they exploited, the only real story is that this Administration has systematically dismantled our basic form of government, has managed to put the Press to sleep, has unilaterally redefined our foreign policy, and they did it by actively misrepresenting the facts and their own motives to the people who elected them.
