nobody said Foley was dumb…

Posted on Thursday 19 October 2006

Throughout the lurid instant messages Foley sent to current and former pages, there are repeated references to waiting until the young men are 18.

Teen:   im not 18 till feb 23
Maf54: i know.
Maf54: nothing will happen
Maf54: just dreaming
Maf54: don’t worry
Teen:   ya im still 17 till feb 23
Maf54: see you feb 24th

Former prosecutors and FBI agents who have worked on similar cases say, depending on the prosecutor, the instant messages contain more than enough material to bring a charge of soliciting sex over the Internet.
Foley’s Rules:
  • No sex prior to 18 [ergo, above the age of consent]>
  • No seduction while still an active page [ergo, no chance of being charged with abuse of power]
Foley’s Escape Plan:
  • Go directly to Rehab [ergo unavailable until things die down]
  • Reveal Priest Abuse [ergo victim rather than perpetrator]
The most telling thing in the article us the comment section.
-So to date there’s no evidence of a crime committed? Isn’t that interesting.

-What is quite clear is that we need to outlaw ALL homosexual activity, not just with minors. This is now SO clear, everyone should see it.

-When did you first know about this and why did you wait until just before the election before publishing? Who in the Democratic Party forwarded this information to you? How much and in what type of currency are they paying you? Since obviously you are on the payroll.
A lot of things come to mind.
  • The first comment, "… no evidence of a crime …", evokes "I thought you people were the Moral Majority. If Foley were a teacher at the high school, seducing kids and having sex with them shortly after they graduated, there’s no school district in the country that wouldn’t fire him on the spot and prosecute him if they could.
  • The second, "… outlaw ALL homosexual activity …", bring out "We tried that already."
  • But it’s the third one that gets me, "When did you first know about this and why did you wait until just before the election before publishing? Who in the Democratic Party forwarded this information to you? How much and in what type of currency are they paying you? Since obviously you are on the payroll." The assumption here is that anything negative must be a political trick of the Rovian variety. So, it’s a Rovian response to a presumed Rovian trick. Anyone speaking against the Fatherland must be a subversive, a dirty trickster. The content of the accusations against Foley are ignored…
