1964

In 1964, the “daisy girl” political ad for the Democrats warned of the danger of electing Barry Goldwater because he might use the atomic bomb in Viet Nam.”

2006

Now, in 2006, the heirs of Mr. Goldwater are warning that al Qaeda might do the same thing against us – ergo, vote Republican? It would seem to me if that is our fear, we would be fighting al Qaeda, rather than “effecting a regime change in Iraq.” This fear-mongering ad, is in fact, in the same spirit as the “campaign” that lead us into a misguided war in Iraq in the first place.

The issue in this election is not resolve about fighting our enemy, al Qaeda. It’s about competence in that fight! Early in this campaign, Karl Rove predicted the Republican success would rely on their ability to connect the War in Iraq to the War on Terror. Well, they’re having their shot. The only glitch is that they aren’t connected!
