stay the course…

There’s a lot of coverage of Bush’s attempt to squirm his way out of stay the course – the talking point that backfired. But I want to go on record as saying that the course was a bad idea from the start.
  • We didn’t declare war on Iraq as part of a War on Terror.
  • We didn’t declare war on Iraq because they were a threat to us.

We declared war on Iraq because a bunch of crackpots sat in a Think Tank or two in Washington and decided we needed to kick some ass in the Middle East. What we did was show our ass instead.

There was never really any "course" to "stay."

UPDATE: And in case you might have been confused by Bush, Rumsfeld clears it up as usual:

Faced with widespread disappoval of its Iraq policy, the Bush administration launched a coordinated effort this week to convince Americans it has never had a stay-the-course strategy in Iraq. On Sunday, President Bush said, "We’ve never been stay the course." White House Counselor Dan Bartlett disavowed the label again yesterday.

But in a radio interview today with Sean Hannity, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld confirmed that the Bush administration isn’t planning to shift its strategy. Rumsfeld called media reports about Bush’s reversal "nonsense," and said "of course" Bush is "not backing away from staying the course."

Heard a bit on NPR this AM, from Bill Maher:
“New rules for Think-Tankers: #1. YOU CAN’T BE STUPID! …

    Good Day.

Hurrying here, and stretching, as usual; but thinking again about the Aspens. I wonder if it was simply Ken Lay that was turning.. thinking of squealing. : )
