Rush raises his voice…

And then there’s this:

During the Washington goings on, one of our local news anchors was in Washington interviewing various Georgians – people like Andy Young, John Lewis, etc. And then there was Senator Saxby Chambliss. He talked about the King celebration like he was a real insider instead of the Republican shill that he actually is. He said nice things about Obama and working with him “unless they start that partisan stuff.” Since then, I’ve giggled every time John Boehner [Minority leader in the House] or other Republican Congressmen talk, because they all say that [as they stand together doing partisan things]. I think they’re going to be a problem, because they’re reflexly opposing whatever comes up. I guess they’re politicking for 2010. Whatever they’re doing, it’s not thinking deeply about the plight of the country.

And as for Russ Limbaugh, he talks as if the Democrats want to take over all these things, instead of the fact that they’re forced into considering these possibilities because his beloved Republicans dropped the ball as badly as any ball has ever been dropped. He’d rather watch us collapse than do what’s needed to reverse the very ills that he’s supported forever. As he says, “I hope Obama fails.” You know what, I hope Russ Limbaugh fails. Not that he cares what I think. But he’s a distraction to any serious thought about the current situation. He’s got a good track record for failure: college, sportscaster, marriage, other stuff. His only success has been to be a popular obnoxious bully on Talk Radio, where he tops the charts. He’s a superlative in both the obnoxious and the bully categories.

Limbaugh employs a signature logical fallacy in these kinds of arguments. I can’t name it in classical Aristotelian Greek, but I’ll bet there’s a name for it. It involves taking a behavior that is clearly a response to something else, and treating it as a primary motivation. For example:
  • The Banks way overextend themselves in speculative investing
  • The Banks are collapsing and begging the Government for money
  • The Government gives the Banks money to keep credit flowing
  • The Banks spend the money on other things, give out elaborate end of year bonuses, and do nothing to increase credit flow
  • The Banks are still collapsing and begging the Government for money
  • The Government considers nationalizing the Banks to insure that the taxpayers money is used to keep credit flowing rather than just being spent
  • Rush Limbaugh talks as if Barack Obama wants to take over Banks eg is a Socialist

Rush doesn’t have a new or original idea in his head. He’s anti-anything that hasn’t come from a conservative think tank. I could at least respect him if his ideas were his own, but they aren’t now and I doubt have ever been. Free speech is a priviledge. He’s lucky it’s one we cherish.
