There’s nothing Supreme about the court right now. Will the poison released in the Bush Administration ever be neutralized? Not without a strong reaction on all fronts.
The brilliance of the appointments of Roberts and Alito is that they didn’t seem all that bad at the time. Maybe some wiser souls than I thought they were, but I was frankly relieved that neither seemed as bad as Thomas and Scalia. I was also lulled by the fact they both seemed like reasonable men, even if they were more conservative — who could expect anything more?
But are their votes any less draconian than if they had been fire-breathing zealots? Probably not.
