The best gateway drug album to get non-jazz people into jazz.

Trane, Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly are my heroes.

One of the best albums of all time.

E-A-D-G-B to D-G-C-F-A…Em to Dm “So What chords”..then goes up a half a step

anyone like myself who has ever played piano in a combo…one of the first things you learn

Bill Evans revolutionized voicings with this song…

    Heroin destroyed him…what a waste

I frequently play this album along with Oscar Peterson’s Night Train in the background while socializing. Invariably people of all ages will ask me what that music is. Great jazz is like great abstract art – there is something there that is very interesting. It grabs your attention.

    Wayne Shorter…Speak No Evil
    Herbie Hancock…Maiden Voyage
    Bill Evans/Tony Bennett…both albums
    Trane..My Favorite Things
Oliver Nelson…Blues and the Abstract Truth
    Bill Evans…Portrait in Jazz

if you like this type of jazz

This is Bill Evans playing at someone’s house in Finland… my idea of a perfect evening with friends:
