disillusionment…

The pessimist has an interesting post up on the left coaster. He quotes a reader:

Reader J Michael said yesterday:

PLEASE don’t lump all Christians together as you did in the original post. Surely you know that we Christians are a very diverse lot. …. Please remember that just because some people (throughout history) have managed to turn their Christianity into the opposite of what Jesus intended, doesn’t mean all Christians are guilty.

No dice! We’re being asked to turn the other cheek, and we’ve been hit again and again. It is absurd to ask us to abide by the principles of the church, when the church itself, at least the one that shows, has betrayed those principles in spades. If the net thrust of Christianity is something other than the Xenophobic, hate-mongering that we’ve heard for the last 6 years, it’s up to the Christians as a group to show it to us. We’re under no obligation to ignore the monsterous effect it has had on our country [founded on the principle of separation of church and state]. This ball is way, way in J Michael’s ballpark.

I’d suggest that reader J Michael needs to be talking to his fellow Christians, not us. He doesn’t liked being "lumped." We’ve got plenty to tell him about how it feels to be "lumped." I agree that the current church doesn’t practice what Jesus preached, but that’s his problem – not ours. And we don’t know that Christians are a diverse lot, unless diversity means there are a lot of silent ones who sit by while their religion is being perverted to destroy our country.

Get active, J Michael!
