The pundits are all talking about Kennedy as a fighter, referring to his coming struggle with cancer. They’re saying what we all say when we first hear something we don’t want to hear. I don’t know how this will play out any more than anyone else, but I don’t think he needs the burden of putting on a face to help us deal with our grief about his plight. He’s done plenty enough. It’s a time to let him know how much we appreciate him and the gifts we’ve all received from him and his family. He has lived his life under a microscope and responding to our weighty expectations.
