Hundreds of thousands of people were reported to be homeless Monday and food and water were running short in parts of Myanmar in the wake of the devastating cyclone that smashed urban buildings and obliterated villages two days earlier.

This first decade of our new century is a mess: Global Warming with climate change, War in New York [9/11], War in the Middle East [Afghanistan and Iraq], Katrina, America’s flirt with Fascism, rioting in Africa – it’s just not pretty at all. Even the gentle places of the world have not been faring well in this new century: Buddhist monks beaten in the streets of Burma, Tibetan Buddhists beaten in Tibet, and now a hurricane in Burma that may have killed thousands. It’s a time when mankind is messing around with a lot of petty wrangling, and avoiding the pressing issues of the day:

  1. Population control
  2. War
  3. Energy
  4. Climate
  5. Food
Wonder what it will take?
